The Beginning    The Immediate Past    The Past    The Immediate Future    The Present

Dispatches from the heart of adorable little Lupita:

25 December 2006 - Films That Should Be On DVD Already:
Santa Claus (dir. Rene Cardona, 1959) - No, I'm not talking about Santa Claus - The Movie with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. I'm not even really talking about the freakish Mexican film that pits Old Saint Nick against the devilish Pitch. No, I'm talking about the episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 where Mike and the Bots rip it a new one. First aired on December 24, 1993, it's the perfect counterpart to Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, which the crew made mince meat of two years earlier when Joel was still at the helm. I always thought Rhino would clean up if they released the two Christmas episodes together, but instead they paired Martians up with Manos the Hands of Fate, essentially substituting one goat-man for another. At least Torgo doesn't have a disturbing dance number...

26 December 2006 - Early yesterday morning, James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, passed on. After 73 years, the Hardest Working Man in Showbiz has finally earned a rest.

27 December 2006 - Well, we are down one more ex-president. Gerald Ford died yesterday at the age of really, really ancient. I'd say something about his legacy, but... he's Gerald Ford. What do you want out of me?

28 December 2006 - Happy birthday, Mum.

29 December 2006 - I'm going to a New Year's Eve party with some college friends. They're probably expecting the guy on the left to show up...

...but it's the one on the right who will be walking in the door with the container of magic cookie bars. Unless they're in the habit of reading this strip, I expect this will come as a surprise to most of them.
