Dispatches from the Appointed, not the Anointed:
21 February 2005 - Films That Should Be On DVD Already:
Home of the Brave (dir. Laurie Anderson, 1986) - For such an innovative artist who's worked in so many media -- records, books, television, film, not to mention live performance -- it's a shame Anderson is so woefully underrepresented on video. Besides Home of the Brave, her concert film, she also had a collection of music videos and other assorted pieces released on VHS, but to date neither has made the leap to DVD. This is something which should be recitified as soon as possible. What good is it being able to do a wicked impression of Laurie Anderson's clone if no one knows what I'm doing?
22 February 2005 - You've probably already heard about this, but over the weekend Hunter S. Thompson, the father of gonzo journalism, apparently took his own life. A self-inflicted gunshot. What a bummer. Well, I know what I'm doing when I get home from work tonight -- watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold..."
23 February 2005 - Another quote from Raoul Duke, alter ego of Hunter S. Thompson, in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: "You'd better take care of me, Lord...because if you don't you're going to have me on your hands." I'd say the Lord's hands are quite full right now, wouldn't you?
25 February 2005 - Well, Oscar time is upon us. There are a number of films I'm rooting for -- House of Flying Daggers for Best Cinematography, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for Best Original Screenplay, Sideways for a bunch of stuff -- but I really only want one thing and that is Best Animated Feature for The Incredibles. I swear, if the Academy gives the award to Shrek 2 I am going to smack it so hard.
