The Beginning    The Immediate Past    The Past    The Immediate Future    The Present

Dispatches from Stephen King's The Lawnmower Man:

15 September 2003 - Quote of the Week: "Your ass is grass, and I'm a lawnmower." --They Might Be Giants, "Your Mom's Alright"

16 September 2003 - I would like to thank avid reader Heidi for bringing to my attention the controversy surrounding the cleaning of a certain character of mine. I have since checked with him and he does prefer being an "awesome young shepherd" as opposed to "some effete alabaster athlete." EDIT (13 May 2004): I realize these quotes no longer appear in the article that I link to, but the one on Yahoo! News has since disappeared. Hopefully the CBS News one will stick around.
In other news, yesterday Yoko Ono apparently tried to scare the world into peace. Frankly, I don't need to see any follow-up stories on that.

17 September 2003 - Went to Wendy's last night to get their latest bacon-mushroom cheeseburger thing (which isn't as good as the bacon-mushroom cheeseburger thing they had back in February, but it's the thing they have now) and saw that the new thing on the menu is Homestyle Chicken Strips -- and that said strips are "Pure Chicken Satisfaction!" If that slogan sounds at all familiar, it's because it's very similar to the one used by Wrigley's Spearmint Gum, which was -- as you may recall -- "pure chewing satisfaction." Now, maybe this is just me (and I am perfectly willing to concede that point), but if I were Wendy's, I wouldn't want people even subconsciously thinking my chicken was chewy. Just a thought.

18 September 2003 - Boy, can I be wordy.

19 September 2003 - My sources tell me that today is Talk Like A Pirate Day. I don't know if I can actually endorse that, but I know that it is also the day the new Woody Allen movie, Anything Else, comes out, and I can certainly endorse that. Go on. What other comedies are out there that you would want to see? Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star? The Fighting Temptations? Don't make me laugh. (No, seriously. They don't make me laugh.)
