Dispatches from the Ovitz of the Previset:
10 February 2003 - Quote of the Week: "The game is over." --Our President, ladies and gentlemen
I've tried my best not to use this comic to make overtly political statements -- hell, I was originally planning on using a funny, bitter, love-related quote this week -- but I have to say that George W. Bush is getting on my sodding wick with all his "war in unavoidable" crap. Do I think Saddam Hussein has done some awful things to his people and others? Undoubtedly. Do I think the man is capable of lying? About as capable as you or I. But a pre-emptive strike on his country -- which will devastate the civilian population and plunge the region even deeper into turmoil -- is not the answer. Mr. President, the only person playing a game here is you, and diplomacy should never be a game.
Okay, I've said my peace. Back to the funny.
11 February 2003 - Okay, the Academy Award nominations are being announced this morning and I know I have my fingers crossed. Femme Fatale for Best Picture! Brian De Palma for Best Director! Rebecca Romijn-Stamos for Best Supported Actress! Come on, it can happen if enough people believe in it!
12 February 2003 - I'm very disappointed in all of you. Femme Fatale was counting on you. Still, I'm glad to see that Spirited Away was nominated for Best Animated Feature. Too bad all the other films in that category were actually seen by people.
14 February 2003 - Maybe it's just me, but it's been a long time since I found it appropriate to use the words "Happy" and "Valentine's Day" in the same sentence. Hey, wait. I just did. Wacky.
